1)
What is floating?
Essentially,
it’s spending an hour or so lying quietly
in the dark, suspended in a warm solution of Epsom
salts, about 10" deep and so dense that you
float effortlessly. We play gentle music to help
you relax. In short; it’s complete mental
and physical relaxation.
Research
shows that when the brain is freed from all sensations
– gravity, temperature, sight, sound, touch
– it enters a theta brainwave state which
can normally only be achieved through deep meditation.
Floating is a short cut to the beneficial effects
of years of meditative training.
2)
How long is a float session?
The
float session will last one hour and twenty minutes
including time to shower and change. However, we
recommend you allow an extra 15 minutes to relax
afterwards with some complementary refreshments.
3)
Might I be bored or frightened?
Anyone
who floats regularly will tell you how blissfully
comfortable and deeply relaxed they feel whilst
floating. You’re as close as you are ever
likely to be to an experience of weightlessness;
and, surprisingly, there is no feeling of being
confined in a tight space.
4
What should I bring?
No
need to bring anything except yourself and a towel.
5
Do I need to book?
Yes.
Sometimes a same day float session is available
but it is definitely advisable to call in advance
to be sure.
6
Will my skin go wrinkly?
No.
The high salt content of the water means that the
water will not draw the salt from your skin causing
wrinkles as happens in a long bath. In fact, the
Epsom salts are actually very nourishing for the
skin and yours will feel silky soft after your float
session.
7
What if I am claustrophobic in the tank?
Actually,
we don’t use a float tank, rather, a float
room... you can stand up inside them. Also, the
light is controlled from inside, giving you total
control of your environment.
8
Can I float if I am pregnant?
Yes,
although it is always a good idea to check with
your GP first.
The weightless environment of the tank is actually
greatly beneficial for expectant mothers. Stress
and strain on your back and abdominal muscles is
alleviated during your float. The deep state of
mental relaxation is also wonderful for both mother
and child. It makes for a great bonding experience.
9
What if I can’t swim?
You
don’t need to swim – you will float
like a cork! The density of Epsom salts in the water
will support you entirely. The water is also only
10 inches deep so you can touch the bottom at any
time.
10
How much does it cost?
A
single session is £35 (Off Peak Tue-Thur 10am
or 11.30am £25). It’s important to have
at least between 3 and 5 float sessions to feel
the full benefits of floating.
We offer pre-paid packages of 3 float sessions for
£70 or 5 float sessions for £100
11
How do I know it is hygienic?
The
high salt content of the water means that nothing
harmful can live in the float environment. An advanced
filtration system filters the water between each
float session ensuring a totally clean, sterile
environment. And we are registered and regularly
checked by the local environmental health and health
and safety office
12
Is there anyone who shouldn’t float?
Anyone
suffering from epilepsy, schizophrenia, or acute
skin disorders should avoid floating.
It is inadvisable to float during menstruation.
13
Is there anything else I should know?
Avoid
shaving on the day of your float as freshly shaved
skin may be irritated and thereby detract from the
experience. |
